Blog Reflection
In complete honesty, I believe that my blog is done very well. Through using research and personal experience, I have generated educated and knowledgeable opinions/thoughts on particular educational matters. By understanding the history of a given topic and then diving into the current/modern research, I was able to provide my readers with a timeline of events and how it has impacted education (i.e., going from old and traditional methods of teaching like long lecturing, testing and work sheets to new and collaborative methods of teaching like inquiry projects, podcasts and etc.). The biggest knowledge takeaway from my blog is that my thoughts and opinions are generated through calculated and timely measures. For example, we currently live in a world that is surrounded by technology. Personally, I don’t believe in restricting something that is prominent everywhere we go. As an educator, I am trying my best to use current research, and my experiences (both individual and collaborative) with technology, to hopefully provide a meaningful learning experience to my students.
In my blog, I definitely refer to a lot of the class content that was given to us. Although class content was the same for every student in this class, the thoughts and opinions of the content varied. This is the beauty of research. Individuals have their own way of thinking and linking ideas. Personally, I always try to tie in some of my life experiences into the content. As a result, genuine reflection and discussion occur. In addition, I think it is important to note that an individual’s curiosity and genuinity are never “wrong”. Scolding individuals for sharing what they believe in is absolutely despicable. Instead, we need to learn how to acknowledge, respect and recognize these ideas through discussion and collaboration.
The “Historical Foundations of Teaching and Learning” module provided me with great insight and impacted me greatly as a scholar/practionier. By understanding the timeline of educational pedagogies and strategies, I have an idea of why something might not work. This knowledge and data, along with my teaching skills, allows me to provide the best overall learning experience for my students.
Throughout this blog, I think I grown tremendously. In my opinion, I believe that my thoughts and opinions were merely generated by my personal experiences of a given topic. However, as time went by, I slowly started to incorporate research and scholarly knowledge to my thoughts. By mixing in both, I believe that I was able to come up with educated opinions that can positively affect student learning.
If I were to give myself a grade for this blog, I would give myself an A. I think my blog posts were enriched with scholarly data and personal experience. In addition, I think my blog posts were honest and genuine. I wasn’t trying to impress anyone. I wasn’t trying to get a good grade. I was just being myself!
